As we celebrate our 45th anniversary as a business and look to the future, Beck Group are proud to announce that we have partnered with Carbon Neutral Britain™ to measure and offset our carbon footprint and become Certified as a Carbon Neutral Business.
As a leading UK distributor of temporary protection products and specialist bags, we recognise that the UK construction industry CO2 emissions have increased by 45 percent since 1990(*) and are pleased to be one of the first temporary protection suppliers to act on reducing our impact.
Being environmentally conscious has always been very important to us and by supporting the Carbon Neutral Britain Climate Fund™ programme, we are not only offsetting our entire annual operational carbon footprint, but also helping to enhance the economic and social prosperity of communities in developing countries worldwide.
As certification awarded by an external organisation, it provides assurance that the carbon-neutral claim is robust and credible, following calculation using the ISO 14064 and GHG Protocol Emissions Standard principles of relevance, completeness, consistency, transparency and accuracy.
By doing this, we will balance more than 340 tonnes of carbon each year, contributing to the funding of verified projects that support education, employment and overall better life for local communities.
We spoke to Rusiate Tagicaki Nabalarua - an On-Site Installation Engineer involved in the installation and commissioning of the Nadarivatu Hydro Power Project in Fiji – who said “communities and industries were suffering frequent power failures and it took almost an hour to restore - now it is much better than before the installation as it has extended power coverage and stabilised the power supply”.
Lyndon Dupont, our Operations Manager, explains: “When customers choose us for their temporary protection solutions, they can now be completely confident that they are reducing their environmental impact as every one of our outbound deliveries is carbon neutral”
Whilst carbon neutrality is essential, we believe that sustainability is a journey not a destination. Our sustainability roadmap includes reducing our carbon emissions by:
- Reducing our paper trail – sending all our customer invoices and delivery notes via electronic means rather than via post.
- Reducing our electricity – replacing our existing lighting fixtures with LED movement-activated sensor lighting.
- Reducing our import shipping – by actively sourcing our products locally rather than overseas where possible.
